Mahindra Launches 5-Year/150 000Km Warranty On Selected Models

Mahindra SA, which is now also responsible for the sales and marketing of SsangYong products in Southern Africa, gave strong backing to its product offerings in South Africa with the announcement at the Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) of a 5-year/150 000km factory warranty on the popular XUV500 SUV and the same cover on the power train of the Scorpio double cab Pik-Up.

In addition a 5-Year Freedom Plan was announced at the same time for the SsangYong vehicle range. This consists of a 5-year/90 000km guaranteed buy-back, 5-year/90 000km service plan, 5-year/150 000km warranty and roadside assistance.

Mahindra SA continues to show strong sales growth. Mahindra was the fastest growing automotive brand in SA in 2012 and over the past two years the company’s sales volume has grown by 170%.

“Since the last Johannesburg International Motor Show, Mahindra’s sales have increased by 156%, while SsangYong sales have increased by 287% in the last year,” said the CEO of Mahindra SA, Ashok Thakur, addressing the media at the Johannesburg International Motor Show.

“We are a fully-owned subsidiary of Mahindra, the US$16.2-billion multinational federation based in Mumbai, India, and are very pleased with our progress as we head to complete nine years of successful operation in this region. We have weathered the ups and downs of business, which included the global economic meltdown, and I believe the experience gained in tough times has made us a stronger company.

“During this period we have built a countrywide network of more than 60 dealers, with 36 dealers having the SsangYong franchise, and the network continues to grow,” added the Mahindra SA CEO.

Thakur went on to say that his team was very aware of not only offering a comprehensive range of products, but also the necessity for top quality after sales back-up in terms of parts and service. Our first time pick of parts is running at more than 95% and parts sales had increased by 70% over the past 12 months.

“Since April 2012, Mahindra South Africa is distributing SsangYong products in Southern Africa. This is a major building block in our strategy to make Mahindra a much bigger player in Southern Africa. We not only have an extended product range, but provided our dealers with an additional brand.”

It was announced recently that the takeover of SsangYong by Mahindra was already bearing fruit internationally for the two companies in terms of research and development and the opportunities for both brands for expanding into new markets. Mahindra has committed to nurturing the SsangYong brand in more markets while preserving its Korean heritage.

SsangYong made a profit in the second quarter of 2013 and has started a second shift at its plant in Korea to meet growing demand for its vehicles. The company also concluded wage negotiations recently without a labour strike for the fourth consecutive year.

“Our display at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show gives a good indication of how Mahindra and SsangYong have extended its local range as well as giving a glimpse into the future with our Mahindra Reva e2o electric city car. Mahindra will be entering the increasingly competitive compact SUV market with our new Mahindra Quanto.

“From SsangYong, the new Korando C and Rodius showcased for launch early 2014. From a customers perspective we are excited about launching the new 5-year/ 150 000km warranty for XUV500, Scorpio Pik-Up Double cab and the new SsangYong 5 year Freedom Plan.” said the CEO of Mahindra SA, Ashok Thakur.
